Plastic Odyssey crew

Since its inception in 2008, the World Oceans Day has celebrated the vital importance of the world’s oceans. On Sunday June 8th, this year’s theme of Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us emphasized the oceans' essential role for life on earth. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to update on Plastic Odyssey’s 3-year expedition aimed at finding and sharing innovative solutions to reducing plastic pollution on land and sea.

Currently in the Seychelles (Indian Ocean) the crew have scheduled a programme of activities including schools and community visits to the vessel, a quayside exhibition, a national conference on plastic pollution and documentary screenings about the Plastic Odyssey expedition.

Prior to arriving in the Seychelles, Plastic Odyssey visited Mauritius where it inaugurated the first plastic recycling unit in the country, a micro-factory capable of processing up to 500 tons of plastic waste per year.

Next stop after the Seychelles - The Comoros - a volcanic archipelago off Africa’s east coast.

Since 2021 Lubmarine has been playing a supporting role in Plastic Odyssey’s global journey by providing our high-performance lubricants along with our very latest suite of global digital monitoring services to help sustain the vessel - which has recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary since it was launched in 1975.
