World Ocean Day 2024 takes place on June 8th highlighting the role that transformative collaboration can play in helping preserve the world’s oceans, habitats and inhabitants against the threat of Climate Change and the wider human impact.
Two key objectives for this year’s awareness day are:
- Protecting and restoring natural coastal and ocean ecosystems (including land)
- Keeping on creating more solutions at the local, national and international levels that are based on the best science.
Plastic Odyssey’s three-year global journey aims to raise awareness about the impact of plastic waste in and on the oceans, through educational workshops and programmes.
In each region where the Plastic Odyssey expedition stops, the team meets the men and women who are taking different paths to live with less plastic and turn the plastics they are collecting into useable products.
Plastic Odyssey has already stopped off at different destinations in Africa before heading across the Atlantic to South America, and more recently crossing the Pacific Ocean to French Polynesia.
In one of its latest destinations, the Island of Lifou in New Caledonia, the Plastic Odyssey team worked with local inhabitants, collecting and sorting over 300 kilogrammes of plastic waste from the Islands’ Southern beaches.
The waste was then loaded aboard the Plastic Odyssey ready to be recycled and transformed.
Since 2021 Lubmarine has been playing a supporting role in Plastic Odyssey’s global journey by providing our high-performance lubricants along with our very latest suite of global digital monitoring services.
