Hartmann Gas Carriers Germany will use Total Lubmarine lubricants in three new liquefied ethylene gas (LEG) carriers scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2016.
The long standing Total Lubmarine customer has ordered the vessels in co-operation with Norwegian shipping investment firm Ocean Yield and is anticipating their arrival in August, October and December respectively, this year.
The ships have been developed as a new class of environmentally friendly, cost effective LEG carriers with 36,000 cbm capacity, dual fuel engines and a range of 10,000 nautical miles.
The dual fuel engines are unique as they can operate on HFO, MDO, gas oil, LNG and – a world first – on ethane. Made by MAN, the 7G50ME-C9-GI-Ethane (MES) engines will be lubricated with Talusia LS 25 when using ethane and Talusia Universal with HFO.
The carriers will sub-chartered by Hartmann to Saudi Arabian petrochemical firm SABIC which will use them to transport ethylene gas from the US to its cracking facility in Teesside located on England’s north-east coast.
