A six strong Total Lubmarine team from Hong Kong took part in a recent Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) Orienteering Competition.

The competition provides an opportunity for participants to catch a glimpse of the challenges encountered by MSF field workers when they walk through some of the world’s most testing environments to provide medical aid to patients on the front line. The MSF Orienteering Competition began in 2002 and it is the largest competition of its kind in Hong Kong.

Over 4,500 participants ran up hills and through valleys to experience the challenges faced by field workers in remote areas.

Stepping into the 15th year, a new element was added into the event. Each team of participants was assigned a field worker identity and they were encouraged to carry out “frontline missions”, with the conflict in South Sudan and a refugee camp in Iraq as background, in the event centre and the competition area. Through these missions, participants were able to learn more about the difficulties and struggles that MSF field workers encounter.

To date, participants have raised a record breaking amount of over HK$7.2 million, to support MSF’s medical humanitarian relief work in over 60 countries worldwide.

The Total Lubmarine team completed the race safely and ranked at a very respectable 12 out of the 98 teams in their category. Well done team!
