My commitment, Our safety!

To work safely and protect lives – offshore and onshore – TotalEnergies launched its 2022 Golden Rules on 29 April across all its offices to support the TotalEnergies World Day for Safety.

The 2022 Golden Rules sets the mandate for a strong safety at work culture with the goal that everyone has a right to a safe and healthy working environment that is valued and promoted by both management and workers alike.

The dedicated World Day for Safety by the energy major, explores the topic of a positive safety and health culture with the theme ‘My commitment, Our safety’.

“Awareness and dialogue on safety matters across our global business contributes to improving safety and risk management policies and every-day strategies,” says Arnaud Guichard, General Manager of Lubmarine. “We believe it is essential to build ownership and commitment across all our operations as to how everyone manages their safety in the workplace, and to question and challenge safety procedures for more effective and efficient working with less risk. Safety is our first core value, and is the cornerstone of our own operational excellence. We believe all accidents can be prevented, even though our activities present a variety of risks.”

“These Golden Rules are built on inclusion, through the meaningful involvement of all stakeholders that work across our supply chain,” highlights Mariane Axt, Supply Chain and Safety Director at Lubmarine. “Health and safety at work is a continuous programme of improvement built on trust and mutual respect offshore and onshore. We need to be sure we have the same level of safety everywhere as we supply in 100 countries and 1000 ports. As we continue to learn to live through a global health crisis, the risks of working offshore and on land continue to challenge how we go about our work safely.”

The basic rules set out in this booklet are based on feedback and lessons learned from employees and partner companies. Encompassing the situations most frequently encountered at industrial facilities and in TotalEnergies’ transportation and marketing activities, these latest rules move the business closer to efficient and effective management of the risks specific to TotalEnergies’ businesses.

“Strict compliance with these rules is pivotal to prevent accidents in operations. Safety is everybody’s business, every day. Achieving it requires education, discipline, and the courage to step in as soon as you see something being performed is wrong or when a situation deteriorates,” says Mariane.

TotalEnergies’ Golden Rules impact all elements of safety, such as high-risk situations, traffic safety, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and lifting operations. With 12 rules for all areas of work, our Golden Rules put safety at the forefront of all operations no matter what the job. Two new rules have been added this year which focus on ‘Hot Work’ which assesses commitment to safety when operating flammable substances and hazardous gases. The second new commitment to safety added to this year’s list is ‘Line of Fire’ which outlines how to avoid moving objects, vehicles, pressure release environments and dropped objects.

In the event of unsafe actions, TotalEnergies’ Stop Card initiative gives employees the authority to stop ongoing work in the name of safety. The Stop Card allows workers and contractors to easily speak up and take action if they deem situations to be unsafe.

“Sharing these principles and meeting stringent standards is the best way for us to prevent accidents. This is my commitment to our safety,” highlights Arnaud.
