Total readies for six month low-sulphur transition

The new Global Sales and Business Development Director at Total Marine Fuels Global Solutions (TMFGS) says the IMO 2020 transition period is imminent.

In an exclusive interview with Lloyds List journalist, Hwee Hwee Tan, Mr. Rosenkrans stated that bunkering of fuel oil with 0.5% sulfur, or very-low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO), “will pick up in a meaningful way” from October.

Mr. Rosenkrans, who spoke during this year’s Total Global Sulfur Cap Forums, sought to reassure Total customers that the energy major expects to supply VLSFO to at least the ports where it has been supplying high sulfur fuel oil (HSFO) before the IMO 2020 regulation.

Mr. Rosenkrans made clear that while tapping “different sources of VLSFO” to ensure supply, Total would not compromise on quality, further stating:

“If a customer wants a customized, very specific VLSFO, it is technically possible to supply but all aspects including costs would need to be considered.”
