TotalEnergies recently hosted an enlightening seminar on the evolving landscape of marine lubricants, focusing on new fuels and carbon emission challenges. Held at the prestigious Fairmont Hotel on Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, the event attracted 120 maritime professionals from across the Middle East, eager to gain insights into the industry's future.

 

The seminar featured a lineup of distinguished speakers, including three experts from TotalEnergies and two prominent ship managers, who shared their expertise on critical topics facing the maritime industry. Emilie Audebert, Business Director - South Europe, Middle East, India & Africa, Lubmarine Division, opened the seminar with an overview of TotalEnergies' ambitious vision to increase its share of electricity and renewable energy to 50% of its sales mix by 2050.

 

Nikolaos Kotakis, Global Head for Engine Oils at TotalEnergies, delivered the keynote address, focusing on the development of next-generation marine lubricants tailored to address the challenges posed by new fuels and carbon emissions. Rajesh Katt, Marine Key Accounts Manager – Middle East & India, provided a comprehensive shipping market overview, covering trends in the world fleet, newbuilding contracts, and financial earnings across various ship types.

 

The seminar also featured a compelling presentation by Ibrahim Behairy, former Managing Director of WinGD and current Global Sustainability Manager at ABS, who discussed alternative and future fuels, including the challenges associated with ammonia production and the use of LNG as fuel in dual-fuel engines. The event concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Nikeel Idnani (Honorary Secretary of the IMarEST UAE branch), featuring industry leaders such as Jaideep Vohra (Fleet Performance & Drydocking Director, Bahri), Raafat Madi (Manager Technical, Tanker, ADNOC L&S), Nikolaos Kotakis and Ibrahim Behairy, who engaged in an interactive exchange of ideas and perspectives on the future of marine lubricants.

 

The evening culminated in a networking dinner, providing attendees with an opportunity to discuss the day’s insights while enjoying the luxurious surroundings of the Fairmont Hotel.

 

This seminar underscored TotalEnergies' commitment to innovation and sustainability in the maritime industry, highlighting the Company's proactive approach to addressing the challenges of new fuels and carbon emissions.
