Living with IMO2020 - New fuels, new challenges for lubrication

Three months in to the new IMO 2020 regulations and it is evident shipping's new operating regime has led to a hefty yet largely successful transition for the industry.

Whilst the move to cleaner fuels and fewer emissions seems to be working well, various blends have created challenges for efficient engine combustion with engine cleanliness becoming absolutely critical. This requires a high level of in-depth technical awareness, support and solutions for ship operators and OEM's to ensure they implement the right strategy to operate successfully.

And as the industry's knowledge and experience of new fuels evolves, it is clear that it will continue to face changes with initiatives that will dive deeper and further into energy efficiency, emissions and greenhouse gas targets.

It is one of the reasons why Serge Dal Farra explains to Marine Log, the need for ship operators to use both lubricants and monitoring tools to provide optimal engine performance and engine cleanliness.
